Øssed Collector
As Leonardo Da Vinci said, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. The collector called Øssed, on the contrary to common perception, collects the fruits or autumn leaves as a safety net before they fall on the ground. Instead of human effort or tree shaking machine it utilizes the power of nature such as gravitation, wind, rain, freeze and warmth of the sunshine. This collector enables to harvest the ripe fruit continuously in every weather. The fruits are protected not only from fall damages, but also from molds, bugs and worms.
Øssed is a tool that can help to make the garden work of elderly people easier and faster. Not only this, but the device can also be used to keep green balconies clean - a great boon to city dwellers.
While developing Øssed the goal was to keep its usability as simple as possible without the need of using any tool. The installation is intuitive and the adjustments are achieved by hooks, drawstrings, bungee cords, hook & loop and rope tighteners.
Focusing on sustainability the usage of plastic materials was minimized for those cases, where organic materials could not be used as an alternative. The base was made of stainless-steel plate using laser cut and common machinery methods to achieve precision, however the wooden parts were hand-crafted from local hardwood.
